Lions Gate Nabs U.S. Rights to 2005 Venice Pic "Don't Tell"
Lionsgate announced today it has acquired U.S. distribution rights to Cristina Comencini's Italian Oscar entry "Don't Tell" ("La bestia nel cuore"). A Cattleya and Rai Cinema production, the film premiered at the 2005 Venice Film Festival, where its female star, Giovanna Mezzogiorno, won the Volpi Cup for best female performance. "Don't Tell" narrates the story of Sabina (Mezzogiorno), a young woman whose peaceful existence is shattered by a series of nightmares that open a window of memories to her inner world: her childhood, her family and the rites of a strict yet reassuring middle-class upbringing. Yes, La bestia nel cuore became the Italian nomination for the 2006 Academy Awards when Privato (Private), directed by Saverio Costanzo (Italy's original nomination) was disqualified because the dialogue track is in Arabic and Hebrew, not Italian.
