an interesting topic.....
in the realm of horror movies, the shining. it is fleshed out more in stephen king's novel--- jack torrance becomes obsessed with the history of the overlook hotel, and determines to write about its evil history; thee film cuts through much of this, and by the end of the movie he is absorbed into the hotel "you've always been the caretaker."
also worth considering---
Notorious
Rebecca
The Innocents (based on james' "the turn of the screw")
The Ice Storm (the trap of affluent connecticut suburbia....isolated houses)
