With only two
business days and a sneeze to go we have quite a staggering 22% response.
That is 152 people who have let us know what they feel we as moderators should
do regarding commercial use of the list. I'm guessing that what happens on
Monday is that at midnight, server time, the survey closes and an email is sent
to the list with a url of the results.
The results are a
mixture of quantitative and qualitative. No-one can see who has voted for
what, nor who has said what. The comment fields are likely to be the most
useful in helping us work out how to interpret the quantitative
data.
With this response I
think no-one will be able to say with any justification "I have been
disenfranchised", nor that, provided we are able to interpret the results in a
manner congruent with JANET rules (why does that always make me think of my
cousin who was a roller skate dancer? [ok, too much information, but it IS
almost Friday!]) the rules we gain from the consensus are in any way arbitrary,
self serving, exclusive, cabalistic etc.
Of course, just to
make sure, and knowing that 78% have chosen to remain silent, are the 78%
CONTENT to remain silent? It;s your list, not ours. We just moderate
it when needed because some poor sap has to! So make absolutely certain
that we know what you want.
