The only thing I would add is that after an employee leaves an organisation "Tax Records" have to be kept for 7 years so they may be linked but again, I am not an expert. Is that really you Tim? Human Resources 72 years Review after 5 years records for long-term preservation transfer to e-library Particulars of employment Up to age 72 years - contracts - personnel files - letter of appointment - references - changes of terms and conditions Current address details 6 years after employment has ended Training history 6 years Leavers dossiers 6 years Personnel security records 5 years if this is normal retirement age or 10 years after leaving Annual appraisal reports 5 years Medical/Self Certificates - unrelated to industrial injury 4 years Job applications 3 years after employment has ended Job descriptions 3 years after employment has ended Annual leave records 2 years Study leave applications 2 years Job advertisements 1 year Records of hours worked 1 year These are a minimum but, no doubt, someone could object to the information could no doubt object to information being kept for longer than the prescribed time. I think this is probably standard for the whole of the NHS. The pensions department would obviously need to keep information up to the death of the individual. I suppose that the person could say that they didn't want his pension - even then I would imagine that they could change their mind.
