Also, it may be better speaking to the student as the information may not be accurate. Does your organisation tell potential/actualstudents what will be done with the data they supply? If you tell them at point of collection you share it with other bodies to detect fraud or similar then there may not be a problem. If not,you could also ask them to clarify a few points regarding their information, which if done in tandem with the above may be useful. Just a thought Iain Iain Harrison Information Management Consultant Leicester City Council 0116 252 7606 >>> Jenny Sparling <[log in to unmask]> 08/17/06 1:11 pm >>> The hypothetical student has apparently provided a CV which states he was working and has provided evidence that he was claiming JSA for the same period of time, so we are hypothetically in possession of documentation suggesting a false claim may have been made. We don't want to breach any duties we may have towards the hypothetical student in terms of his personal data, but the member of staff concerned also doesn't want to get into trouble if she turns a blind eye to the information. Hi All I am hoping someone will be able to confirm an appropriate course of action for me. A colleague has asked me a hypothetical question, and I'm not 100% confident about the answer. Basically, the question is that if we, as a college, receive information which suggests a potential student may have been falsely claiming JSA whilst working, do we have a duty to disclose this information to the relevant authorities or do we have a duty of confidentiality to the potential student? Any assistance would be gratefully received.
