Actually, a simple search in my archives shows that Mike Parsons has contributed to JISCMAIL forums previously. I doubt most people who use these forums care too much one way or the other whether this kind of marketing is allowed, hence so few comment on it, but if there is going to be a rule against it it should apply to all. Who is to decide whether someone is a worthwhile contributor? I rarely post to the forums but I do read them daily. So should I be banned from advertising something users may be interested in and find useful? Yet there are a number of people who post on a regular basis to the forums I am signed up to who, in my opinion, rarely offer anything of value. How should they be judged? It should be one rule for all and should be decided upon by the moderators. Michael >>> Tim Trent <[log in to unmask]> 14/02/2006 23:21:16 >>> I expect I am not a lone voice here. I do not begrudge Mike Parsons his promotion IF he contributes to this list. But I do not accept "Apologies for cross posting". Correct me if I am wrong, but this is the first post from him I have seen. -----Original Message----- From: This list is for those interested in Data Protection issues [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Mike Parsons Sent: 14 February 2006 17:46 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [data-protection] Workshop event - Building a Business Case for Information Compliance --- Apologies for cross posting --- ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ All archives of messages are stored permanently and are available to the world wide web community at large at http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/data-protection.html If you wish to leave this list please send the command leave data-protection to [log in to unmask] All user commands can be found at : - http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/help/commandref.htm Any queries about sending or receiving message please send to the list owner [log in to unmask] (all commands go to [log in to unmask] not the list please) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ All archives of messages are stored permanently and are available to the world wide web community at large at http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/data-protection.html If you wish to leave this list please send the command leave data-protection to [log in to unmask] All user commands can be found at : - http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/help/commandref.htm Any queries about sending or receiving message please send to the list owner [log in to unmask] (all commands go to [log in to unmask] not the list please) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
