Government departments with the .gsi.gov.uk extension (Government Secure Intranet) can email sensitive data to each other; this includes the police/prisons. Outside of this system we use secure email. Organisations have to sign up to secure email and jump through a few hoops to make sure they have appropriate firewalls etc. Email addresses then have .cjsm.net (which stands for criminal justice secure mail) on the end. We are encouraging all our partnership agencies to sign up to it so we can send each other details of offenders, referrals, appointments etc. Sheffield City Council. for example, is well on the way to registering many of its staff, which means we will be able to email social workers, housing staff etc Check out www.cjsm.cjit.gov.uk/ Regards Hilary Hilary Lawrenson, Data Protection Officer National Probation Service - South Yorkshire Head Office 45 Division Street Sheffield, S1 4GE Tel 0114 276 6911 Fax 0114 276 1967 Dave Parker <[log in to unmask]> Sent by: This list is for those interested in Data Protection issues <[log in to unmask]> 03/11/2006 11:00 Please respond to Dave Parker <[log in to unmask]> To [log in to unmask] cc Subject [data-protection] Dot Gov email addresses Sorry for cross posting... The nhs have nhs mail with which they say clinicians can send sensitive information securly from NHS mail to NHS mail account. Does a similar security system exist for .gov email addresses? And how would you recommend sending sensitive information from a .gov to an nhs mail account?
