We are told the ICO has too much work with DPA and FOI at the moment, yet he
seems to have taken his eye totally off DPA. Perhaps it's time to get a
separate commissioner for each area and give them some teeth.

The only action on Spam has been Nigel! His action regrettably does not set
precedent, which is probably just as well since the case was not defended.

It is about time the UKIC said "No More Mr Nice Guy"

And I note from Computing magazine "UK admits failure on spam" - no
prosecutions last year although it received 364 complaints. ICO states that
it needs greater powers to tackle the problem effectively. It gets to the
stage where you think especially with Customer First - what would really
happen if we did share data throughout Departments...wrap on the knuckle or
not.........
It's when you get headlines like the above you feel as though you are
banging your head against a brick wall i.e. trying to uphold the DP
principles and then at the end of the day has DP any real clout.....
Disillusioned or what!!! Never mind, it's Friday tomorrow.

I surrender.

The UKIC has stated that he will go after those who do not notify. This is
a strict liability offence, and easy to handle.

But when one complains that an organisation both ignores TPS and is not
notified one gets a reply talking about the fact that they may not need to
have notified in the first place. And it appears that the casework and
advice officer has not actually checked whether this ratbag of a timeshare
selling organisation needs to notify or not.

Instead he has passed them my phone number as the person who has complained
about them! Sweet!
