Bad idea. Keep the default sensible, which is not HTML. Those who want
it fancy, and know that it isn't going to break/get stripped/cause
security issues should actively choose to enable it themselves. You
shouldn't force a potential minefield of nastiness on those who may not be
able to make a conscious decision whether or not it's a good idea.
(As Nigel mentions, email was designed for text, and HTML email is a
crowbarred-in after thought hitched onto the back of MIME that doesn't
work very well for some people, and is plain unacceptable for others).
I thought "default opt-out", not "default opt-in", was the DP mantra!
