Try to print a-10.*b  and you'll see the difference due to the 
inaccurate representation  of 0.4.  In my experience, what you get with 
an F24.20 format may correspond to some rounding of the exact decimal 
conversion of the variable,  although I am not sure if there is any 
contstraint on this behavior in the standard.
