As John and Fred's mesages show, this topic is as complex as it is important.

An ideal place to debate it will be at the CSE's Annual General Meeting, which is this coming Saturday afternoon in Leeds, during the "Empire and Beyond" conference. See

http://www.cseweb.org.uk/ebc06.html

for details.

Any comrades who want to "impress" (In Fred's word) anything on the CSE Executive Committee are strongly encouraged to put themselves forward in the election to it, which will be part of the AGM agenda.

Best wishes,

Julian Wells

for CSE Executive Committee

While boycotting the RAE 2008 may be quite difficult for academics,
developing critiques and a third way has a lot of merit. In any case,
concerning the boycott, suggestions of what this would involve are
desired. In any case, people need to impress upon the Executive
Committee of CSE at the upcoming AGM to do something.
