> January 2005, one of nine British citizens to be held there. He had been 
> abducted by Pakistani intelligence services and held without charge in 
> Bagram for a year before being handed over to the US intelligence services 
> to be detained in Guantanamo Bay. During his captivity in Guantanamo Bay 
> he was held in solitary confinement, routinely tortured and threatened 
> with death. He was eventually released without any charge in January 2005 
> after years of campaigning by his family and a long legal battle lead by 
> his lawyer Gareth Peirce - best known for her work with the Guildford 
> Four. Following his release he actively campaigned for the release of five 
> other Britons held in Guantanamo.
