Hi Aejaz, There are many instances where communication is a real and urgent problem, MS being but one example. The acute situation being another. I remember designing a device for our physiotherapy department which consisted of a small high visibility 2 line text screen linked to a microprocessor. It measured 15x10x3cms and was battery operated, which meant it could easily be slipped into a pocket, ready for immediate use. The memory held 12 three word messages and an associated AAC symbol. New messages and symbols could be easily programmed. There were two switch inputs, allowing acceptance and user switch scanning. There was also an autoscan feature with adjustable timing. If there was no switch access site, the clinician could hold the device in front of the client, operating the scan, and look for yes/no response. This design would be flexible enough to be tailored to the ever changing dynamics of many clinical conditions.
