Hi David
I can't think of anything on the market that would do it. There are
various timer modules in RS with all sorts of ways of operating. You
may get one of these to provide the timing function.

Failing that you may need to create a circuit that produces an output
pulse of fixed duration (long enough for the CD player to interpret as a
valid press of the play/pause button) when the input switch is pressed.
This first pulse causes the CD to play. The timer then starts counting
and produces another output pulse after a preset duration. This second
output pulse pauses the CD. The preset duration will be determined by a
monostable - retriggerable if you want the music to continue if the
person repeatedly presses the switch.

If you want to run the additional circuitry from the same batteries as
the remote control then you may need to connect an opto-isolator, rather
than a relay, across the pause button because you are going to be
working at a low supply voltage probably something like 3V.

Hope this helps.
