The CILIP Cataloguing and Indexing Group conference this year includes sessions on image retrieval, looking at current innovations and issues, which may be of interest to ARLIS members. These sessions are on Thursday 14th September, and include 'Image, shape and multimedia resource discovery' by Frederic Fol Leymarie (Goldsmiths) and Stefan Rueger (Imperial), 'The blind men and the elephant: current and future directions in image retrieval' by Colin Venters (U. of Manchester) and 'From spectator to annotator: possibilities offered by user generated metadata for image databases in the cultural heritage sector' by Seth Van Hooland (Universite Libre de Bruxelles). I think these look fascinating, however, note it is the last day for registration today. See http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/events/CIG-2006/ The conference is at UEA at Norwich. I hope to see some of you there, regards, Jacqueline Cooke Jacqueline Cooke Subject Librarian for Visual Arts & Visual Cultures, Acting Special Collections Librarian, Goldsmiths, University of London 020 7919 7166 [log in to unmask] For up to date information on forthcoming workshops and free visits please see the online ARLIS/UK & Ireland Events Calendar 2006 at http://www.arlis.org.uk/even/
