Wednesday October 18th 2006, 2pm - 4.00pm

at the NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY

(to be held in the Lecture Theatre: ask at the main entrance or visit the website for directions: www.npg.org.uk)

How many times have you been told that paper collections are either too dull or too difficult to display? This seminar will look at ways of exhibiting paper collections to overcome these perceived problems and bring them alive for a new generation of audiences.

Programme

Alan Sterenberg, Exhibitions Manager, British Library: 'Reading between the lines: the challenge of exhibiting books'

Fleur Jago, British Library: A demonstration of Turning the Pages (Q&A session to follow)

Frances Norton, Head of the Wellcome Library : Using your paper collections as museum artefacts.

BOOKING: Places are limited so please let us know you are attending by October 16th.  E-mail [log in to unmask] to register.  Attendance is free.  The Lecture Theatre is wheelchair accessible and fitted with a hearing loop. Attendees can purchase refreshments in the gallery’s Portrait Café.

*LMLAG is an informal grouping of archivists and librarians in national museums and galleries in London.  They aim to promote best practice and meet the needs and aspirations of museums and their developing audiences, to promote opportunities to learn from each other and from others, and raise awareness of our present and potential abilities among museums and the archive and library professions.

As well as colleagues from museums and galleries, we welcome to this seminar any interested individuals from other sectors and professions.
