INVITATION TO TENDER
MLA London is seeking to
appoint a consultant or consultancy team with specialist expertise in the area
of archival cataloguing and description.
During the first half of 2007 MLA London will be
developing a methodology to support archives to reach out and engage new
audiences and to listen to, understand and record external perspectives on the
collections that they hold.
The consultant will be required to take
forward Revisiting Collections, a
methodology developed in partnership with the MDA (formerly Museum
documentation Association). To date the methodology has been focussed on museum
collections.
This project seeks to re-purpose the Revisiting Collections’ approach so
that it can be applied and used by archives enabling them to:

conduct research into the records they hold and
identify material that contributes to our understanding of the interlinking
histories of a diverse population
·
make this material and
the specific and contextual information about it accessible to a wide range of
users through re-cataloguing, re-description and re-interpretation.

use this enhanced
understanding of the relevance of their existing holdings as a platform for
proactive work with new audiences
