STATISTICIAN (VETERINARY LABORATORIES AGENCY)

Based at Addlestone, Surrey, UK

This is an exciting opportunity to use your statistical knowledge to solve real world problems in the areas of animal health and food safety. Working closely with colleagues in the Centre for Epidemiology and Risk Analysis, you will apply your statistical knowledge to increase understanding of animal and public health issues and provide scientific advice to help inform Government policy. With considerable opportunity to shape your role, you will help to identify and solve problems of national impact through statistical consultancy and training. Equally importantly, you will communicate these results to increase awareness and of the techniques, and develop novel methods through academic collaborations. 

To succeed in this interesting role, you will require a degree in a mathematical subject with a significant statistical component and experience using statistical packages.  A postgraduate qualification in statistics (or the desire to work towards obtaining one) would be an advantage. You will be self-motivated with a strong aptitude for solving complex scientific problems, and enjoy working in cross-disciplinary teams. Finally, excellent communication skills are essential, as is a flexible approach to respond to changing requirements and deadlines.

The post is in Pay Band D £22,300 - £32,100 per annum.  The Civil Service offers a choice of final salary and stakeholder pensions, giving you the flexibility to choose the pension that suits you best.
