Lecturer - Statistics – Reference Number: PEMS 11773
School of Physical, Environmental & Mathematical Sciences
UNSW@ADFA

UNSW@ADFA consists of five Schools which form a campus of
the University of New South Wales located at the Australian
Defence Force Academy, Canberra. UNSW@ADFA provides
undergraduate courses to officer cadets and midshipmen as
well as postgraduate courses to civilian and defence personnel.

The School encompasses the disciplines of Mathematics & Statistics,
Chemistry, Geography, Physics and Oceanography.

The Statistics group teaches probability and statistics at both
undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as providing
supervision for research degrees. At the undergraduate level,
teaching is directed largely to courses in the Business and
Engineering degrees. Current research areas in the group include
survival analysis and bushfire modelling. Several members of the
School are active participants in the Australian Bushfire CRC which
provides funding for specific projects and for support of research
scholarships. There would be opportunities for an appointee with
appropriate experience or interests to become involved in this
research, but applicants with an interest in any area of applied
statistics would be equally welcome.

Applicants should have a higher degree in Statistics or a related
discipline (or equivalent experience), with a demonstrated record of
research and publication in an area of applied statistics. Other
essential requirements are: a demonstrated ability to teach both
introductory and specialist Statistics courses at undergraduate and
postgraduate levels; excellent oral and written communication skills;
demonstrated ability to work positively and cooperatively in a teaching
and research environment; knowledge and understanding of equity and
diversity principles; knowledge and commitment to occupational health
and safety responsibilities. Interest and willingness in developing
Statistics courses using flexible delivery techniques would also be
an advantage, as would familiarity with Splus or R and experience in
teaching survival or reliability.

Salary: Level B $65,082 - $76,660 per annum
(Salaries will increase after finalisation of 2006 UNSW Enterprise
