Lecturer - Statistics – Reference Number: PEMS 11773 School of Physical, Environmental & Mathematical Sciences UNSW@ADFA UNSW@ADFA consists of five Schools which form a campus of the University of New South Wales located at the Australian Defence Force Academy, Canberra. UNSW@ADFA provides undergraduate courses to officer cadets and midshipmen as well as postgraduate courses to civilian and defence personnel. The School encompasses the disciplines of Mathematics & Statistics, Chemistry, Geography, Physics and Oceanography. The Statistics group teaches probability and statistics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels as well as providing supervision for research degrees. At the undergraduate level, teaching is directed largely to courses in the Business and Engineering degrees. Current research areas in the group include survival analysis and bushfire modelling. Several members of the School are active participants in the Australian Bushfire CRC which provides funding for specific projects and for support of research scholarships. There would be opportunities for an appointee with appropriate experience or interests to become involved in this research, but applicants with an interest in any area of applied statistics would be equally welcome. Applicants should have a higher degree in Statistics or a related discipline (or equivalent experience), with a demonstrated record of research and publication in an area of applied statistics. Other essential requirements are: a demonstrated ability to teach both introductory and specialist Statistics courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to work positively and cooperatively in a teaching and research environment; knowledge and understanding of equity and diversity principles; knowledge and commitment to occupational health and safety responsibilities. Interest and willingness in developing Statistics courses using flexible delivery techniques would also be an advantage, as would familiarity with Splus or R and experience in teaching survival or reliability. Salary: Level B $65,082 - $76,660 per annum (Salaries will increase after finalisation of 2006 UNSW Enterprise Agreement.)
