The purpose of this post is to strengthen the research portfolio of the 
school and increase the potential for future successful research grant 
applications. With activity focussed around the emerging topic specific 
research networks and DoH funded Mersey Primary Care R&D Consortium, there 
will be significant opportunities to add to the research portfolios within 
health services and mental health research. The postholder will develop a 
personal programme of methodological and/or applied research, and 
collaborate with senior researchers in planning new projects including 
grant applications.

POSTS)

LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN MEDICAL STATISTICS (2 POSTS) - Quote Ref: 
A/MED/LSL

£26,401 - £50,589 pa 

These two posts form part of a co-ordinated investment in cancer research 
at the University of Liverpool. The CR-UK Liverpool Cancer Trials Unit 
(LCTU) is committed to building upon its success in the co-ordination of 
national and international pancreas cancer trials for this and other 
cancers for which we have developed particular expertise.  The purpose of 
these posts is to strengthen the statistical aspects of the work undertaken 
within the LCTU. 

The appointees will collaborate with senior researchers in planning new 
projects including grant applications and develop their own personal 
programme of methodological and/or applied research.

The post-holders should have an MSc or PhD in medical or applied 
statistics, be able to work independently as well as part of a team, and 
have effective interpersonal skills.  One lecturer post is available for 2½ 
years and the other Lecturer/Senior Lecturer post is available on a 
permanent basis.

CENTRE FOR MEDICAL STATISTICS AND HEALTH EVALUATION

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (MEDICAL STATISTICS) - Quote Ref: A/RA/MS

£22,111 - £28,850 pa

The main purpose of this post is to contribute to an MRC-funded research 
project on within-study selective reporting bias, working collaboratively 
with Professors Williamson, Altman and Jacoby and Dr Gamble. However the 
appointee will also have opportunities to contribute to the work of the 
Centre more generally, depending on their experience and interests. Full 
supervision will be given.   You will have a postgraduate qualification, or 
equivalent experience, in statistics, be able to work well as part of a 
team, and have effective interpersonal skills.  The post is available two 
years.

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, STATISTICAL PHARMACOGENETICS - Quote Ref: A/NIBHI/RA

£22,111 - £28,850 pa

This post is part of the University investment in pharmacogenetics. The 
overall aim of pharmacogenetics is to investigate genetic polymorphisms to 
try to predict an individual's response to certain drugs.   You will 
collaborate with other researchers to design and analyse pharmacogenetic 
studies. It is anticipated that this may require development and 
implementation of new statistical methods, as well as the assessment and 
use of existing methods.  You will have a postgraduate qualification, or 
equivalent experience, in statistical genetics or related field 
(statistics, epidemiology, population genetics, bioinformatics, 
mathematics).  The post is available for two years initially.
