Dear all! The Highlands Local RSS Group will have its next meeting tomorrow in Aberdeen (Details see below) All welcome Claus (group secretary) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TITLE: 'Design and analysis of a cotton microarray experiment' SPEAKER: Kathy Ruggiero (CSIRO, Mathematical and Information Sciences, Canberra, Australia) DATE: TUESDAY 21/03/2006 TIME: 4:15 pm (Tea from 4 pm) VENUE: Strathcona Lecture Theatre, Rowett Research Institut, Bucksburn, Aberdeen (please report to reception on arrival, for information how to get to the Rowett Institute see http://www.rowett.ac.uk/institute/location.html) ABSTRACT: Cotton fibre quality is characterised by numerous attributes; for example, length, strength and homogeneity. The scientific objective of the current experiment is to elucidate the differential molecular mechanisms associated with fibre growth and maturation in three cotton species harbouring very different fibre properties. Two-colour cDNA microarrays (24K cotton chip) were used to probe cDNA derived from harvested bolls under two sets of experimental conditions: three (3) cotton plant species (Genotype) and three (3) fibre developmental stages (Time). Details of the experimental design and data analysis – exploration and inference – will be discussed with minimal technical details and will be suitable for a general audience. -- *********************************************************************************** Dr Claus-D.
