RESEARCH ASSISTANT (IN MEDICAL STATISTICS) Ref: 504/06 Full time or part time The post will be for 18 months in the first instance and will support 2 funded projects, both related to the health effects of air pollution. Study 1 will examine the relationship between air pollution exposure and cardiovascular and respiratory outcomes in adults and children participating in the Health Survey for England between 1994 and 2004. Study 2 will examine how primary care databases can be used to evaluate the health effects of regulatory interventions to improve air quality within Greater London. The successful applicant will be responsible for linking air pollution data to the HSE and primary care databases, cleaning the data and carrying out statistical analyses under direction. The analyses will be complex, and will involve multi-level modelling. We are seeking candidates with a genuine interest in managing data as well as statistical expertise. Good written and verbal communication skills are essential, both for producing written reports, but also for liaising with General Practices. The post would suit someone with an MSc in statistics who has some experience in analyzing epidemiological data. Previous experience of STATA and SAS would be an advantage. The post is full time, but may be configured as a combination of two half-time appointments. Appointment will be on the RA1A scale - £22,437 - £32,395 pa inc depending upon experience and qualifications.
