Postdoctoral Position in Statistical Machine Learning
Department of Computer Science
University of California, Irvine, USA.

A full-time postdoctoral scholar position is available in Padhraic
Smyth's research group at UC Irvine. The successful candidate
will carry out basic research on statistical learning algorithms for latent
variable models with potential applications in a number of
areas such as text analysis, geoscience, biology, and medicine.
There will also be opportunities for interaction with other
faculty in the computer science department, such as Max Welling
and Pierre Baldi, as well as significant opportunities for
interaction with the recently-formed Statistics department (with
faculty such as David van Dyk and Hal Stern). The
Statistics and Computer Science departments at UC Irvine
are housed in the same building and part of the same
school.

Applicants should have a Phd in applied mathematics,
statistics, computer science, electrical engineering, or a closely
related discipline. Some experience with Bayesian statistical
methodology is desirable.

The UC Irvine campus is located 3 miles from the Pacific Ocean
in the warm sunny climate of Southern California - the local area
offers a wide variety of cultural and outdoor opportunities.
