The University of Liverpool Department of Mathematical Sciences Division of Statistics and Probability SEMINAR A unifying statistical framework for modelling environmental spatio-temporal data. Professor Luigi Ippoliti Universita degli Studi G. d'Annunzio Wednesday, 3rd May 2006, 2pm The Whittaker Room (211) Abstract: As requested by the framework EU Directive on air quality assessment and management (96/62/EC) and related "daughter" directives, air quality standards for specific pollutants are designed to protect public health and environment. Modelling is one of the main activities to evaluate air quality and to prepare future control programs. Of course, this is not an easy task since a variety of pollutants may undergo chemical reactions between themselves and with other species. Nevertheless, in this talk we attempt to discuss a framework to construct a parsimonious multivariate model which is able to capture the dynamical interactions among pollutants and meteorological variables. Specifically, assuming that latent or background effects underlying the fluctuation of observations can be estimated, a dynamic structural equation model is developed in a state-space form. It will be shown that it allows complicated structures to be modelled and, imposing zero restrictions on its parameter matrices, encompasses a wide range of static or dynamic linear models already presented in the literature of spatial, temporal and spatio- temporal processes. Following the talk, tea and biscuits will be available in Room 304 ALL WELCOME ******************************************************** Ingrid Harper University of Liverpool Department of Mathematical Sciences Division of Statistics and Probability Mathematical Sciences Building Peach Street Liverpool L69 7ZL Tel: 0151 794 4751 Fax: 0151 794 4754 ******************************************************** PLEASE NOTE: THE ABOVE MESSAGE WAS RECEIVED FROM THE INTERNET.
