Candidates should have a proven research record in Statistics and will be
expected to provide research leadership.  Applications from
internationally excellent candidates in any area of Statistics are
welcome, but we are particularly keen to strengthen our profile in
Statistics with substantial biological/environmental applications. The
Department of Mathematical Sciences is one of the most successful UK
Mathematics Departments with RAE grades of 5* in Applied Mathematics, 5 in
Pure Mathematics and 5 in Statistics. The Department has an extensive set
of BSc and MMath undergraduate courses, two MSc programmes and attracts
large numbers of able students. Current research areas in Statistics
include: Environmental statistics and statistical ecology, Medical
statistics and epidemiology, Image analysis, Functional data analysis,
Bayesian inference, MCMC methodology and stochastic optimisation and
Multivariate analysis. In Probability: Brownian motion, Large deviations,
Levy processes, Mathematical finance, Spatial and discrete probability.
