On-line Courses commencing September 2003

Scottish Addiction Studies at the University of Stirling is pleased to announce the commencement of three on-line courses in drug and alcohol misuse.  Scottish Addiction Studies has been providing on-line learning in the addictions since 1996 and has a strong reputation, both nationally and internationally, for this type of teaching practice.

On-line Courses available from September 2003 include:

University Certificate in Drug and Alcohol Studies - an undergraduate course for staff in the drug/alcohol misuse field and related professions. The course is rated at 22 Credits - Level 10 in the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) and has been running since 1996. 

Fees for 2006/7 have been set at £760.00 (£380 per module). The course comprises two modules with Module 1 (DAS901) being the prerequisite for Module 2 (DAS903). Modules may be studied part-time over one or two years.

Drugs, Alcohol and Nursing - an undergraduate course for nurses and midwives. The course is rated at 22 Credits - Level 9 (for Module 1 – NUR179) and Level 10 (for Module 2 – DAS903) (SCQF) and has been running since 2001. 

Fees for 2006/7 have been set at £440.00 for the whole course (£220.00 per module) if taken as part of the Degree course or £640.00 for the whole course (£320 per module) if taken as a stand-alone option. The course comprises two modules with Module 1 (NUR179) being the prerequisite for Module 2 (DAS903); which is studied jointly with students on the University Certificate in Drug and Alcohol Studies. Modules may be studied part-time over one or two years.  Please note that NUR179 is available in both the Autumn and Spring semesters and may be studied as a stand-alone module.

European Studies in Substance Abuse - a postgraduate course for staff in the drug/alcohol misuse field and related professions. This course is offered in collaboration with colleagues in Aarhus Universitet, Center for Rusmiddelforskning (Denmark), Universiteit Gent, Vakgroep Orthopedagogiek (Belgium), University of Stirling, Scottish Addiction Studies (Scotland).

The course is rated at 60 Credits - Level 11 (SCQF) (for UK registrants). Fees for 2003/4 have been set at 1040 euro.

The course comprises two modules with Module 1 being the prerequisite for Module 2. Module 1 (ESMPS1) comprises eighteen weeks of on-line teaching. Module 2 (ESMPS2) comprises a six-week practice placement and the submission of an individual study project (8,000 words). Modules may be studied part-time over one or two years.
