INVITATION
TO TENDER
FEEDBACK
ON HIGHER EDUCATION SECTOR
DISABILITY
EQUALITY SCHEMES
The Equality
Challenge Unit (ECU) is seeking to commission a freelance consultant to provide
feedback to higher education institutions on their Disability Equality Schemes
(DES), which need to be in place by 4 December 2006.
The feedback service
that the ECU wants to provide links to a DES Progress Survey that was sent out
in May/June to DES leads in HEIs, which asked whether such a service would be
welcome. Responses indicate that approximately 40/50 institutions are
likely to want to submit their schemes for feedback, but we cannot be certain
of exact figures and therefore we are offering this work on a payment per
scheme basis. Scheme submissions will be accepted from 4 September 2006 until
20 October 2006.
The purpose of the
feedback will be to provide an assessment of the quality of the scheme to meet
the legislative requirements and also to provide pointers towards developing a
scheme that will have the capability to move the institution towards promoting
a positive and inclusive environment for disabled students and staff.
As a first stage,
you are invited to submit an expression of interest to tender for this work
that indicates your capacity, expertise and approach to address and deliver
this project. The final date for submitting an expression of interest is Monday 10 July 2006. We
will then contact you with details of the tender submission that will need to
be returned by Thursday 20 July 2006.
The successful applicant will be notified the week commencing 24
July 2006.
We would be grateful
if you would forward this invitation to anyone else who you think might be
interested in this work. We would particularly welcome applications from
disabled people.
