Dear colleagues,

With apologies for cross-posting

On behalf of HEFCE I am posting the advert below. HEFCE would be grateful if you could distribute this to any relevant forums you are involved in which have an outreach to disabled staff, students or other relevant disabled stakeholders.

HEFCE's disability equality scheme - are you willing to become involved?

The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) distributes public money for teaching and research to universities and colleges in England; this amounted to around £6.5 billion for academic year 2005-06.

HEFCE is currently drafting its Disability Equality Scheme. We would like to invite disabled people to help us write our scheme so that we can ensure that HEFCE's policies, practices and procedures reflect your needs and priorities.

We would also like to know what disabled people think about HEFCE and what you think our priorities for action in higher education should be.

If you would be willing to help us shape our disability equality scheme and ensure that we are working proactively towards disability equality in the higher education sector, please contact Amy Norton by email on [log in to unmask] or by telephone on 0117 931 7316. HEFCE's website address is www.hefce.ac.uk <http://www.hefce.ac.uk/>

When you contact us, please say whether you would like to come to a meeting with us, or to be involved via email or post only. The involvement process will be fully accessible. Meetings will be facilitated, and any reasonable expenses and costs you incur as a result of becoming involved will be reimbursed.

As HEFCE's involvement process is ongoing, there is no deadline for contacting us. Involvement of disabled people in this work will be long-term, starting with an initial facilitated workshop in May 2006.
