Dear
colleagues
Just
a quick update on the current work of the ECU age team.
We have
just sent out a last minute request to all those HR directors who have not yet
completed the online ECU survey of HR responses to the age equality
regulations…we have extended our deadline for replies to next Wednesday
December 6th (which is also the day that the HEYDAY challenge to the
default retirement age is due to be heard in the High Court.) Anything you can
do to encourage returns to the HR survey appreciated.
We are
going to be hosting (jointly with NIACE) an invitational seminar in Sheffield
on the same day, December 6th, debating with a range of colleagues
from E and D, Admissions, Student Services, Widening Participation and key HE
sector agencies the implications of the regulations for student-facing
services. We hope that out of this will come a number of individual and
collective commitments to actions that will support the sector in promoting age
equality…we will use the website and other means to keep you up to date
with outcomes. Meantime, this week, we contributed to a UUK and GuildHE event
on safeguarding.
We hope
shortly to add a supplement on access to the health professions to our
Guidance Note on Age and Student Issues.
We will
also be publishing very soon a literature review of the impact of age
equality laws in countries outwith the
Finally
we continue to regularly update our webpages and especially our FAQs.
We
are always pleased to hear from any of you on interesting developments in your
HEI or indeed to help any of you think through any particular challenges.
With good
wishes for now
Liz
and Shelly
