My focus of the sociological bit of my research is, at the moment at least,
mainly quantitative - looking at incidence rates etc. of atheism in three
broad regions, Western Europe (esp. Britain and Germany), post-Communist
Eastern Europe (esp. Russia), and North America (esp. USA). I'm also very
interested in the social profiles of nonbelievers, and how they are perceived
by other groups. Much of my work at the moment is on how survey respondents
understand designations like 'nonreligious', 'agnostic' and 'atheist' -
something I hope to conduct my own, fairly small-scale research on in the not-
too-distant future (hopefully in conjunction with William Sims Bainbridge). If
so, then I'm sure I'll be asking for a lot of advice from this group!
