We are holding files in Social Services regarding an adoption which were passed to us from another Authority when the family moved into our area. The father has now made an enquiry as to how long we intend to keep these file before destruction. I explained that adoption files have laws which govern how long they are held, but others may be governed by other retention periods. My query is,would this be treated as an FOI request as obviously it would apply to all files of that type (if adoption) regardless of whose they were. Also, surely it is not requesting personal data, just a date. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ All archives of messages are stored permanently and are available to the world wide web community at large at http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/data-protection.html If you wish to leave this list please send the command leave data-protection to [log in to unmask] All user commands can be found at : - http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/help/commandref.htm Any queries about sending or receiving message please send to the list owner [log in to unmask] (all commands go to [log in to unmask] not the list please) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
