Dear Allstat, Title: Programming Team Leader The Programming Team Leader will participate in the general management of Biostatistics and also take the role of Project Programmer for one or more designated projects. In the role of Project Programmer you will ensure high quality statistical programming and statistical software support to Biostatistics. ensuring that the objectives, standards, deadlines and other requirements set by Biostatistics management with respect to statistical software and documentation are attained. You will be responsible for all statistical programming strategy, coordination and support for those clinical projects for which you will be Project Programmer. Principle functional responsibilities: * Provides input to Biostatistics management team on policy and procedures issues as requested. Assesses, recommends and develops new standards, policies and procedures. Reviews proposed international Biostatistics policies and procedures. * Discusses the need for generic code / coding standards with the (local) Heads of Biostatistics and Programming. Assesses and recommends and provides input to the development of new standard code and utilities. * Ensures that the standard software developed within the Programming Group is validated and fully documented, that it can be used across projects and in all sites and that all applicable programming standards and SOPs are followed. * Determines in collaboration with other Biostatistics Managers and the global head of BCE which standard software should be developed in the Programming Group and which should be developed elsewhere. * Keeps abreast of statistical applications and software developments through literature and attendance at meetings. Maintains familiarity with regulatory authority guidelines relating to biostatistics, data reporting and medical issues in project areas. Keeps abreast of state-of-the-art technologies required to ensure efficient functioning of Biostatistics and the Programming Group. Line Management Responsibilities: * Conducts performance appraisals of direct reports, including setting and assessing objectives. Where appropriate seek input from Project Programmers, Statistics Team Leaders and other relevant personnel in the development of project related objectives. * Hold regular line meetings with direct reports and actively encourage open discussions. * Provide feedback to the Head of Programming regarding performance of the team and work to ensure consistent approach to staff development and performance assessment within the Programming Group. Project Focused Responsibilities: For those clinical projects for which you are Project Programmer: * Has overall responsibility for all statistical programming strategy, coordination and support. * Interacts with other members of Biostatistics Team to clarify programming requirements and to give advice on the availability of standard programs and the cost/effectiveness of developing new software. * Ensures consistency within projects and as far as possible between projects, in collaboration with other Project Programmers if appropriate. * Ensures that all applicable programming standards and SOPs are followed. * Ensures that programs developed for specific projects/protocols are sufficiently portable to allow application to other projects and protocols. * Maintains up-to-date project documentation including that of presentation, analysis and graphics software. Experience needed: * BSc, MSc or PhD (or equivalent) in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics or other analytical field. * At least 7 years pharmaceutical industry drug development experience using SAS. * Good knowledge of international clinical research and drug development. * Confident in the use of Computers; can readily learn new software applications. * Experience in programming and using statistical software as well as knowledge of databases and interface systems. Very good knowledge of SAS. * At least 2 years proven success in Project Programmer role, to include supervisory experience * Travel may be required.
