A Report entitled:
VLE Surveys : A longitudinal perspective between March 2001, March 2003 and
March 2005 for Higher Education in the United Kingdom has just been
completed and is available
from:<http://www.ucisa.ac.uk/groups/tlig/vle/index_html>

This report records the results from a national survey, undertaken by JISC
and UCISA into issues relating to the acquisition, use and support of VLEs.
It complements a similar survey conducted by UCISA in 2001 and a joint
JISC/UCISA survey conducted in 2003.

The main thrust of the report provides a longitudinal comparison of the
returns from the 2001, 2003 and 2005 surveys for VLEs in HEIs.

Why yet another survey? 2005 has witnessed several major initiatives,
notably the publication of two highly influential strategy documents on
e-learning, which were published in Spring 2005, by HEFCE and the DfES.
Their timing should therefore assist the visibility and relevance of a
national survey. E-learning is now on the Government's national agenda.
This will prove to be both a catalyst and scrutinising eye. It will
therefore be instructive to note how well placed the e-learning and IT
support community is in contributing to the development of e-learning
within UK Higher Education.

We hope you find the Report useful.

   Regards,

Martin Jenkins, Tom Browne, Richard Walker
