medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Fascinating. I have been googling, & am impressed at the remarkable number of upsidedown martyrs. For the purposes of Burton church, I think the Japanese & Islamic martyrs can be overlooked.

I do remember seeing an image of an upsidedown female martyr a few years back. I'm thinking..................

Someone on another list has asked if anyone has any idea who the upside-down martyr may be at Burton church. See

  http://www.churchcrawler.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/wsussex.htm.

Scroll well down (some lovely churches there). It looks a bit touched up to me, but whatever the original was like, the person is definitely upside-down!

I will forward any suggestions to the enquirer.

  Susan
