medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

"Aren't angels honorary priests? They often appear, at least in fifteenth-century art, wearing stolas."

Angels are thought to worship at Mass. For some miracle stories highlighting their presence, see Peter Browe, Die Eucharistischen Wunder des Mittelalters, Breslauer Studien zur historischen Theologie, n.s. 4 (Breslau: Verlag Müller & Seiffert, 1938), pp. 5-12. Angels ought to feel at home inasmuch as the "Gloria" and the "Sanctus" are originally their prayers, ones human beings have presumptuously ripped off.
