medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture Some of the Holy Fools went about naked or nearly so. In the orthodox tradition you have the 1-th century St. Andrew the Fool who adopted the life of a seemingly insane beggard, roaming the streets nearlynaked and sleeping under the open sky. Also St. Symeon the Fool, one of the most colorful of the early Christian saints. He also walked about naked, ate enormous quantities of beans and once tied a de4ad dog to hisbelt, dragging it along as he entered the city of Emesa in Syria. From Belgium, we have St. Christina the Astonishing (or Mirabilis). She ran naked through thorns, provoking the neighborhood dogs to chase her.
