INTRODUCTION TO MARC 21
10 & 11 January 2006, London

Reflecting the requirements of working cataloguers for an integrated knowledge of MARC 21, this workshop is an evolution of earlier programmes and covers a range of formats (books, serials, videos and electronic resources) that present the MARC 21 Authority format.

BENEFITS OF ATTENDING:
Sound knowledge of MARC 21 is a key element in professional effectiveness when cataloguing in an online environment. MARC 21 is the only quality metadata format currently available. MARC 21 provides a model for how this area of work should be approached if consistent quality data is a requirement.

By the end of the event participants will have:
·	gained an understanding of the integrated approach of the MARC 21 format
·	significantly practised elements that allow you to work with MARC 21
·	developed a secure knowledge of the MARC 21 format

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
All professionals involved in quality online data creation. Staff in the process of up grading to MARC 21. Data managers who are in the process of specifying a new system that will use MARC 21 and are unsure of the possibilities that the format offers.

SPECIAL NOTES
The MARC 21 format being presented reflects the possibilities of the full format, rather than a modified version offered by a specific system supplier.
