valuing your information service - a case study Senior librarians and
information managers need to be able to justify their services to senior
management within their organisation. This applies to those working in both
the public and private sectors. This one day course looks at a method of
valuing your library and information service (LIS) based on business
valuation techniques. In this way, information professionals can relate
their services directly to reporting line management on their terms. The
course includes an introduction to business valuation, but the most
important part of the day will be a detailed case study, where delegates
will be able to work through an information service valuation. The course
workbook includes a very detailed 25 page bibliography covering all aspects
of LIS valuation.
speaker: Sylvia James

competitive intelligence: an introduction to the art of studying competitors
Competitive intelligence is the process by which companies inform themselves
about every aspect of the competitive environment in which they operate and
the resources, activities and performance of the rivals they currently
compete with, or could compete with in the future. No commercial battle can
be fought without intelligence on your competitors and the accuracy and
timeliness of the intelligence will have a determining influence on the
outcome of the engagement. This one day course is designed to provide
insight into the value competitive intelligence programs have in class
leading companies in the US and Europe. Emphasis will be given to specific
examples in sales and marketing where competitive intelligence was
successfully used to support tactical and strategic decision-making.
