I'm seeing some smart remarks from the list to put this guy on the right track, how about writing to the Grondini yourselves to ask them where they got the advice they published and putting your (valid) points to them.
There at least three to raise in addition to the ones pointed out:
1. this young man is a such a prodigy (as Nicky has pointed out) that he shouldn't need help planning a glittering path for himself. (I'd like to know if he asked CILIP first!) I was 14 years in before I broke the £20k barrier! I'm guessing from those wages he's making a London weighting is involved?
2.There can't be more than 50 Cathedrals in CofE and you have to be of that franchise to hold the librarian's post. Even if there is one post for each Cathedral I would expect those collections to be under the care of rare books specialists of some many years' experience. As the example mentions the magic words "historic records" the posts are more likely to held by archivists who can do libraries rather than the other way round.
3. with great admiration for Prison Librarians and in their support how can we expect people to take a salary drop for the compensation of 'fulfilment' We're the smartest profession and we accepting low pay - how smart is that really?
(anyone do correct me if I'm wrong! I won't be in the office for the next couple of days and won't have to read the heated abuse I am inviting upon myself!)
Is the original Tony on this list? Did he like the answer a journalist could give him? Maybe he could tell us? We shouldn't blame him certainly for asking rather I think the issue is how deluded the outside world is about us - they will continue to be if we don't get out of these closed lists and into the media

And such a nice open field for career development without his requiring 20 years' waiting in dead men's shoes to move up the greasy pole. (-:

I was interested to discover from today's Guardian (http://society.guardian.co.uk/whatelsecanido/0,14184,1128025,00.html <http://society.guardian.co.uk/whatelsecanido/0,14184,1128025,00.html> ) that it's possible to have 5 years experience working in a children's library, and be a qualified librarian - at the age of 22. And that bored children's librarians should be aiming for careers as a cathedral librarians (where no doubt your story telling skills will come in handy if the bishop has a sore throat on Sunday morning).
