INNOVATIVE USE OF LIBRARY TECHNOLOGIES (includes Heritage Wales User Group) Monday 12 December Venues: Swansea College and Coleg Menai (Llangefni campus) by videoconference Learning resource centres and libraries are making innovative uses of technology to enhance their services. Colleagues in Wales are currently looking to extend the functionality of their library management systems, particularly by more effective linking to full text resources. They are also looking at other ways to exploit e-learning technologies in support of their activities. Staff time is scarce, so we need to identify where we can share expertise and source any necessary staff development. RSC Wales has lined up some short presentations from staff who are experimenting with technologies in an LRC/library setting, so you can learn from their experiences and find out what some of the latest jargon means for you. Outline programme includes: 10-11am Heritage Wales User Group (open to Heritage customers, free of charge - to be attended by Emma Duffield, IS Oxford) 11-11.15 Coffee. Non Heritage customers will join at this point. Morning sessions: * Ian Cockrill, Swansea College will look at linking from the library system to electronic resources * Andrew Brown, Swansea University will outline some current innovations in the use of technology which have the potential to improve electronic library services to learners Buffet lunch Afternoon sessions: * Open Forum for colleagues to suggest areas where they feel additional support is needed, particularly in the area of Library systems and related technology. * RSC Wales will give an overview of some possible sources of help and advice. * Two presentations from Swansea College on the Moodle VLE (Angelo Conti) and on the use of a voting system in Learning Centre inductions (Angela Dixon). This event is priced at £25 per person for the whole day including lunch and refreshments.
