Hi Jeremy,

I haven't followed this point in detail so I've only seen arguments
against VO boxes on the mailing lists. The arguments against sound very
reasonable. Based solely on this information, as a site admin, I would not
want anything to do with them.

I'd like to hear the other side of this issue. Would it be possible for
someone to summarise to the tb-support list what the positive reasons for
a VO box are, and why this cannot be done by the existing middleware or a
new middleware product? What would be the consequences of having vs not
having VO boxes in terms of % lost computing cycles (or whatever it is
they are supposed to improve)? Could someone summarise the case made by
the proponents? Maybe this info appeared somewhere already but I missed it
- in which case please could I have a reference?

Also, what would happen if a few sites cannot run VO boxes but some others
can? Would those sites without be dropped from LCG? Would experiments
chose not to use them? Would that reverse the gain in throughput obtained
by the VO box technology?

Cheers,
Simon
