Dear all,
This is the First and Only Circular for the UK Tectonic Studies Group Annual
Meeting TSG 2006 - So act now!
The TSG2006 annual meeting will be held at the University of Manchester
between 4 and 6 January 2006. Full details are to be found at the website:
but keep an eye out for any updates.
The meeting will comprise 2.5 days of oral and poster presentations, beginning
at 08.45 on Wednesday 4 January and finishing after lunch on Friday 6th.
Immediately following the meeting there will be a 3-day field excursion to SE
Spain, to study the tectonics of the Carboneras fault system and related
structures, and to enjoy the local 'ambiente cultural'.
Oral and poster contributions are welcomed on all aspects of structural geology
and tectonics, the mechanical and physical properties of rocks, and applied
aspects of these fields. It is planned at this meeting for one session to focus on
rock deformation and physical properties of rocks. This meeting particularly
encourages contributions from students, and a substantial part of the program
will be dedicated to their presentations. Student registration will be subsidized to
encourage their participation. This year, for the first time, the best student
contribution (talk or poster) will be recognized through a prize generously
sponsored by Shell.
At the end of the proceedings on Thursday 5 January, participants will also be
able to hear a public lecture on 'Comparative Planetary Tectonics', to be given
by Professor Peter Sammonds, of University College London, which will be
followed by the conference dinner.
Abstract submission, registration and accommodation booking details and field
excursion details are to be found on the website.
In order to ensure your inclusion in the list for the post-conference field trip you
must act promptly, because places are expected to be taken quickly, and in
case air fares should rise significantly in the coming weeks.
We look forward to seeing you at Manchester in January,
The organizing committee:
Ernie Rutter, Julian Mecklenburgh, Claire Glover, Sergio Llana-Funez, Tony
Barrett, Sam Green, Chris Horsfall, Sue Treagus, Steve Covey-Crump
Apologies for multiple emails!!
