This is a call for abstracts for an accretionary orogens session at Fall AGU 2005 (see below). We welcome submissions on a variety of topics, feel free to forward to interested parties. Thanks! Stephanie Briggs & Carrie Menold [log in to unmask], [log in to unmask] SESSION OVERVIEW: 2005 AGU Fall Meeting in San Francisco, December 5-9 Session T07 Accretionary Orogens: Past and Present This session aims to integrate studies from a variety of disciplines related to accretionary orogens which have grown via long-lived subduction-accretion processes. These orogens are plagued by heterogeneous lithology, chaotic internal deformation and a lack of obvious spatial and temporal relationships. Interesting topics to explore include: tectonic mechanisms of growth and final consolidation, time scales of subduction, terrane accretion, metamorphism both during subduction and final ocean closure, and rates of crustal growth. We encourage submissions from a variety of orogens, from Cenozoic Western North America to Paleozoic central Asia, addressing both spatial and temporal issues as well as more process-oriented studies. The session is co-sponsored by the AGU Tectonophysics and Volcanology, Geochemistry, and Petrology sections and further information can be found at <<http://www.agu.org/meetings/fm05/>http://www.agu.org/meetings/fm05/> The online Abstract Submission Form is available now. Abstract Deadline: Abstracts must be submitted to AGU by 9 September 2005, 23:59 UT *************************************************************************** Michael Brown, Professor of Geology and Chair of Department Department of Geology [log in to unmask] Geology Building http: www.geol.umd.edu University of Maryland Direct line: 301 405 4080 College Park Exec. asst.: 301 405 4065 MD 20742-4211 Dept. office: 301 405 4082 USA Direct fax: 301 314 7970 Dept. fax: 301 314 9661 *************************************************************************** LABORATORY FOR CRUSTAL PETROLOGY (Information at: http: www.geol.umd.edu/pages/faculty/BROWN/LCP/lcp.htm) ***************************************************************************
