Ken/David This really looks good and I would be pleased to be involved - perhaps we migjht be able to extend some of the activities at the Art of Management conference in Krakow. I am putting these dates in my diary regards Ian King ________________________________ From: Aesthetics, Creativity, and Organisations Research Network on behalf of Ken Friedman Sent: Thu 22/09/2005 03:25 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [AACORN] AACORN at EURAM Dear Friends, Johan Olaisen and I decided as one of our first policy decisions that EURAM 2006 in Oslo would have a strong emphasis on culture. This is reflected in three ways. The first is tracks. The tracks deadline is past, and tracks are now being reviewed and structured by our track chair, Fred Stronen. I know that Pierre, Wendelin and others (me, too) have proposed a continuation track of our ongoing conversation. Arjo and David have also proposed a track. These proposals are moving through the snake now. The second is a culture emphasis in our information and outside work. We'll be researching and recommending cultural activities and we'll publish a series of "EURAM guides" to different Oslo attractions. The third -- and this is where AACORN comes in -- is our culture program. I spoke long ago with David, with Soren Friis Moller, and others about organizational theater, an exhibition, and other possible activities. David is actually chair of organizational theater. (I owe Soren a phone call to start things moving on exhibitions.) Johan and I are offering the forum -- I spoke with David yesterday to say that AACORNers are free to develop the culture program as we (well, actually you) wish. The one regret I have on this is that I'm not the guy to flesh out ideas for the program this year. As co-chair, I'm responsible for the conference as a whole and I'll be hopping from dawn to dusk at the conference itself. David is the key figure in the process. What I realize now that I did not mention to David is that we also have a fourth possibility. We have the full campus for the days just before and after EURAM. If AACORN wanted to come a day early or stay a day late, we could spend a day together as AACORN. Even if a fair number of us turn up, it would be easy to get a place that holds us for conversation and interaction. If anyone wishes to think on this, we can add a pre-conference or post-conference, and we can supply logistical support for on-site facilities, housing, and the like. Best regards, Ken David Barry wrote: Our good friend Ken Friedman is putting together the next EURAM (European Academy of Management), in Oslo, along with Johan Olaisen: http://web.bi.no/euram2006/. We've been talking about ways to turn it into more of an AACORN conference, replete with artful events, cultural thickness, mixes between arts and business, performance, exhibitions, great food, wine, and the like. In light of Academy of Management's withdrawal from arts & business this year, EURAM could be a nice opportunity to create a powerful counterstatement in Europe, something to show our AoM counterparts just how rich things can be when the arts and aesthetics are brought in. I know some of you are considering submitting track proposals, but I'd encourage everyone in AACORN to get on board. Ken's a wonderfully enthusiastic and creative guy and I'm sure he'll help you flesh out your ideas: [log in to unmask] In 2007, EURAM will probably return to its crusty old ways as it hits the mainstream Parisian business schools (I believe INSEAD got the bid along with several others there), but if we can infiltrate it extensively this year and make it as word-worthy and memorable as possible, maybe we can begin a new precedent for mainstream management conferences! One thing I'm going to be pushing for is more conversational sessions--getting rid of the paper/powerpoint blah blah blahs. Hopefully we can find lots of other ways to make it fun, engaging, and stimulating.
