Dear All,
Recently in New Zealand and Australia Sky TV
National Geographic Channel has had a documentary entitled "Monsoon Railway". It
gives a good account of the workings of Railways in India and how they cope with
the Monsoon Rains. Based mainly at Howrah station in Calcutta and on railways to
Assam it shows clearly how the railway employess consider themselves a great
Brotherhood just as depicted by R.K. in "Among the Railway Folk" in 1888.
There has been no mention of the
documentary on the mailbase so it may not be available elsewhere yet, but
when it is shown, it is well worth watching bearing R.Ks stories of floods,
bridge building etc in mind.
