Subject: UK Serials Group Offer Free Roadshows For Those Studying Information Science
Importance: High

The UK Serials Group, within our educational remit, has been hosting Serials Roadshows at a number of library schools for many years now.

The following text has been sent out by post to named contacts in library schools. However, if we have not already contacted you directly by post and you feel our offer of a roadshow may be of benefit to your organisation, please feel free to contact me or to pass this on to someone else who may use the information.

Many thanks

UKSG ROADSHOWS 2005/06
The very latest information from librarians, publishers,
serial subscription agents and the British Library,
plus an opportunity for questions and discussion

Your students need access to the latest developments in their area of study. By hosting a (free) UKSG Serials Roadshow, practitioners from various disciplines can provide them with first-hand insights into the rapidly-changing world of information provision.

Each Roadshow offers you and your institution the following benefits:

  a.. Brings expert practitioners - each of whom has state of the art knowledge - direct to you with the minimum organisational effort;
  b.. Integrates well into the syllabus of Collection Management or similarly-themed units;
  c.. Provides an essential practical element to complement theoretical study;
  d.. An opportunity for your colleagues from the serials/acquisitions departments of your institution to attend the presentation.

Feedback from events show that delegates have found them informative, stimulating and enjoyable - the best way to learn! We are currently planning the next academic year's programme and are writing to ask if you would like to host a Roadshow for your students this year. If so, please let us have some dates, if possible avoiding the period from mid-March to mid-April when we are building up to our annual conference. Because of the need to co-ordinate speakers for a number of Roadshows, we would appreciate your contacting us by mid-October.

The UKSG Education Sub-Committee has a strong commitment to the Roadshow programme and hopes for your support. Each event runs for two and a half hours. As we are sure you are aware, speakers at the Roadshows give their time freely to support this initiative. We would therefore ask that you do your best to ensure a good attendance to make the event worthwhile occasion for both delegates and speakers.

If you have any specific areas you would like a speaker to focus on in their presentation, please let us know when you book a session and we will try to cover this.
