Corinne Sprickett from The University of Strathclyde would like to know more about what exam provisions are made for dyscalculic students in other universities, for example use of calculators and extra time. As far as we are aware, there is very little provision made for dyscalculic students and that some universities only permit extra time in modules that are maths related. At Loughborough University for example, centimetre square paper (not graph paper) has been provided for helping with alignment of digits and also special graph paper for the students individual needs. This includes different coloured or enlarged grids. Support Staff have also been looking at ways of helping students with reading statistical tables. In terms of extra time, it appears to generally be 25% (in line with dyslexics) but this is somewhat arbitrary.
