My apologies for the multiple listings. The 2005 Geological Society of America Annual Meeting, Salt Lake City, October 16-19, 2005 will include a Society of Economic Geology sponsored theme session on Advances in the Understanding of Tectonic Settings and Structural Control of Ore Deposits Over the past years, advances in our understanding of the tectonic setting and structural control of ore deposits have resulted from fully integrated regional and local scale structural and terrane analysis and geologic mapping of metallogenic belts, mining districts, and mines. High-resolution geochronological and geochemical investigations as well as an increased geophysical understanding of the crustal architecture expand the knowledge of these terranes. The result is new comprehensive geodynamic models of the tectonic settings and environment of formation of ore deposits have evolved. This open session is planned to provide a forum for presentation of structural studies in ore deposits, syntheses of the tectonic settings of ore deposits and details of the tectonics of well-mineralized terranes. The goal is to examine the interactions between large-scale tectonic processes with the permeability structure that leads to the formation of economic concentrations of minerals. For this session we encourage oral presentations on tectonics, metallogenic provinces and their timing, geodynamics and their role in fluid flow or magmatic intrusion, petrotectonics of metallogenic terranes, structural analysis of ore deposits, and modeling of fluid flow driven by tectonics. The aim is to exchange ideas on controversies and problems in linking mineral resources formation and regional tectonics, and innovative approaches for resolving these issues. Abstracts are due online by 12 July, 2005 at http://www.geosociety.org/meetings/2005/ This is Topical Session T3, sponsored by Society of Economic Geologist.
