Jim Henderson has an article in the latest Canadian Medical Association Journal titled "Google Scholar: A source for clinicians?" which discusses the "deep web" and various sources to get at it - worth a read. http://www.cmaj.ca/cgi/content/full/172/12/1549?etoc Regards Gary PS - I had never heard the term until this thread started. Now I imagine I'll see it everywhere... ________________________________________________________________________ Gary Jackson, Public Health Physician Counties Manukau District Health Board 19 Lambie Drive, Manukau City Private Bag 94052, South Auckland Mail Centre ph 64-9-262 9535 fax 64-9-262 9501 mobile 021 286 1815 email [log in to unmask] ________________________________ From: Evidence based health (EBH) [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Andrew Jull Sent: Tuesday, June 07, 2005 11:18 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Deep web I have recently come across the concept of the Deep Web ie databases that are not available to a normal surface web search using engines such as Google. I have been struggling for sometime to locate an unpublished trial conducted in Europe during the 1980s relevant to a systematic review I maintain. The company (Hoechst) has long merged to become Aventis and nobody seems to know much about the trial, but I would dearly like to get this information. BrightPlanet has a proprietary search instrument called Deep Query Manager which apparently manages searches of the Deep Web. I wondered if Deep Web searching might help locate some information about the unpublished study - even reference to the PIs would be a good start. Has anybody on the list any experience in using Deep Web searches or heard of anybody considering doing so?
