DC-2005 Preliminary Program online

2005-06-13, The preliminary program for DC-2005 <http://dc2005.uc3m.es/> ,
to be held in Madrid from 12 through 15 September, is now online
<http://dc2005.uc3m.es/program/program.asp> . The program includes keynotes
by Thomas Baker, Ricardo Baeza, Johannes Keizer and Eric Miller,
presentations of 36 papers and project reports, a series of tutorials on
metadata basics and numerous working group meetings.

Singapore has joined DCMI Affiliate Program

2005-06-01, DCMI and the National Library Board Singapore are pleased to
announce that Singapore has joined the DCMI Affiliate Program. With this new
Affiliate, the DCMI Affiliate Program further extends its global coverage,
underlining the facts that DCMI is an international initiative and that
Dublin Core metadata is relevant in many countries and cultural

Tom Baker appointed DCMI Director of Specifications and Documentation

2005-06-13, The DCMI Directorate is pleased to announce that Tom Baker has
been appointed DCMI Director of Specifications and Documentation by the DCMI
Board of Trustees. In this role, Tom will continue to chair the Usage Board
and manage the Usage Board's documentation (see:
http://dublincore.org/usage/). In the next months, Tom will look
specifically at the requirements for documentation and maintenance in the
short and medium term. We are happy that Tom has agreed to take on these
responsibilities and expect that results of his activities will be available
by the time we go to Madrid for DC-2005.

2005-06-03, New Zealand has announced its decision to join the DCMI
Affiliate Program, with the participation of Archives New Zealand, the

New terms published by the Usage Board

2005-06-13, The DCMI Usage Board is pleased to announce the creation of
several new terms -- an encoding scheme for National Library of Medicine
Classification; Instructional Method; and three elements related to the
method, policy, and periodicity of collection accrual (see the Usage Board
decisions page <http://dublincore.org/usage/decisions/> ). The Usage Board
will meet next on 9-10 September 2005, before DC-2005 in Madrid. Please

New version of Dublin Core user guide available

2005-06-13, A new version of Using Dublin Core
<http://dublincore.org/documents/usageguide/> , the official user guide to
Dublin Core metadata, is now available. The updated version includes
guidance for new terms approved by the Usage Board, as well as new sections
on the DCMI Abstract Model <http://dublincore.org/documents/abstract-model/>
and references to newly recommended documentation available for
implementers.

Public Comment period that ended in May 2005, the document Element
